Travel During Hurricane Season
Another Adventure Awaits
Back in April, I was looking at different places to go for a September trip. In the past few years, I have ventured off to Europe in the fall. Thinking of September sparked images of Octoberfest in my mind. How doesn’t one want to have monster steins filled with beer and plates full of sausage and other delectable fried things in a carnival-like atmosphere with thousands of others? I was certainly going to head to Germany or Greece, not to the Caribbean during hurricane season.
A Change Of Plans
Then I found a trip to the Caribbean for under $300 and decided to run with that instead. Having already been to the Cayman and the Cook Islands this year, it seemed to fit in nicely. Tropical beach destinations, white sands, palm trees swaying, and cold drinks. That’s the life right there. What could go wrong?
How About 3 Hurricanes Churning Away
So far, the 2018 hurricane season had been pretty uneventful. Today Sept 10th is supposedly the peak of the season. I have heard this from several different sources. Things sure are a bit lively out there in the oceans. Olivia is heading towards Hawaii, followed by tropical storm Paul. In the Atlantic, there are three hurricanes. Florence is aiming for the east coast of the US, Isaac still working westward towards the Lesser Antilles, and not far behind is Helene.
Aint No Party Like A Hurricane Party
Isaac is the one headed in my direction. I will be in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) on St. Thomas. There hasn’t been much action there weather-wise since last year’s double whammy consisting of Irma and Maria. I fly out this evening and will arrive there sometime tomorrow afternoon. Isaac will be crashing the party Thursday into Friday, more or less. He is forecasted not to pack too much of a punch and weaken into a storm. I surely will have to wait and see. Isaac, I have my eye on you.
I Want To Fly Away
My flights keep getting pushed back and rescheduled, resulting in some sketchy connections. Hopefully, things all work out. If not, I have travel insurance and can try to stay calm and focused. Stay tuned. Until then, I will be thinking happy thoughts of places far away. Fingers Crossed
